Website Design Trends for 2025: What’s In and What’s Out

One of my favourite things about web design (besides the creativity and endless inspiration) is watching how styles shift from year to year. Every scroll through a new design gallery or client brief brings a fresh idea, a different layout, or a colour palette that makes you stop and think, wow.

So, what’s trending in 2025? And what are we gently leaving behind?

Here’s my take on the design directions we’ll be seeing more of—and which ones are starting to fade.

🌸 What’s In: The Web Design Trends to Watch in 2025

1. Softer, Comforting Colour Palettes

Harsh, saturated colours are stepping back to make room for soothing tones—think soft pastels, warm neutrals, and nature-inspired hues. These palettes reduce visual fatigue and create a more welcoming, human-centered experience. Multi-tonal schemes are also gaining popularity, adding depth and sophistication without overwhelming the eye.

2. Bold, Expressive Typography

Typography is taking centre stage in 2025. Expect oversized fonts, serif typefaces that bring warmth and tradition, playful letterforms, and layered styles that add a sense of depth. Type isn’t just there to convey information—it’s now a storytelling element in its own right.

3. Anti-Design & The Human Touch

Goodbye perfect grids—hello intentional imperfection! Anti-design embraces raw, organic layouts, asymmetry, and experimentation. It celebrates individuality and breaks away from that “template” feel. It’s messy (in a good way), and it feels real. Expect more hand-drawn elements, scribbles, and designs that show the human behind the screen.

4. Big Blocks & Vivid Contrast

Bold, blocky layouts are back—especially when paired with striking colour contrasts. Each section on a site becomes its own “mini environment,” making it easier for users to digest information while staying visually engaged. Think of it as storytelling through strong, modular structure.

5. Brutalist and Bare-Bones (But Make It Chic)

Brutalism is back, but this time it’s more refined. Raw textures, stark grid systems, minimal imagery, and monochrome palettes are making a comeback—with a cleaner, intentional twist. It’s ideal for brands that want to be bold, honest, and stand apart from the glossy crowd.

6. Mobile-First & Superfast Pages

This one isn’t new—but it’s more important than ever. With most browsing happening on phones, mobile-first design and lightning-fast page speeds are now baseline expectations. Google loves it, your users will love it, and so will your bounce rate.

🚫 What’s Out (or On the Way Out)

Design is always evolving, and while trends fade, that doesn’t mean they’re wrong. Some styles just feel less relevant right now—but if they suit your brand, there’s always room to adapt creatively.

✘ Overly Neon or Harsh Colour Schemes

The eye-watering, hyper-saturated colours of the past few years are cooling off. In 2025, we’re seeing a move toward calmer, more inclusive tones that feel easier to engage with across all devices.

✘ Minimalism with Zero Personality

Minimalism isn’t disappearing—it’s just growing up. The ultra-clean, emotionless look is making way for personality-driven design. Brands are finding ways to simplify without stripping out warmth or story.

✘ Template-Driven, Overly Polished Sites

Pixel-perfect, “samey” templates are starting to lose their charm. Today’s users are craving authenticity. Designs that feel unique, a little quirky, or that reflect the brand’s human side are winning hearts (and clicks).

Final Thoughts….

Trends are fun to follow—but the best designs are always the ones that reflect you (or your brand). Whether you love bold type, pastel gradients, or a sprinkle of controlled chaos, 2025 is the perfect time to explore new creative directions and break away from the expected.

At Bright Horizon Creative, I believe in thoughtful, story-driven design that evolves with you and your goals. Curious how we can bring some of these trends into your next project?……click on the Contact button in the top nav bar!!
