Hair by Laura

A private salon with big ambitions — and a website built to grow with them.

The client.

Laura runs a private, appointment-only salon in Great Offley — built entirely on reputation and the kind of relationships that keep clients coming back for years.

She also happened to be my hairdresser. When she found out I built websites, it didn't take long. She knew she needed one, didn't want to figure it out herself, paid her deposit, and we got started. Exactly how the best projects begin.

The brief.

Clean. Easy to navigate. A site that felt as calm as her salon — but with room to grow.

Because Laura's ambitions stretch beyond one location. More salons. Training. Possibly products. The site needed to work today and have the bones to scale.

She also wanted a space to share her expertise — not a generic blog, but somewhere that genuinely sounded like her.

The thinking.

The challenge with a private salon is tone. Too polished feels cold. Too casual undersells the work. It needed to feel like walking in for the first time: warm, professional, immediately reassuring.

Laura's existing brand — deep navy, gold, hand-drawn logo — stayed. The design work was about honouring that identity while building a structure that could carry a growing business.

Pricing was presented clearly and without apology. For a premium private salon, transparency doesn't undermine positioning — it builds the trust that makes it possible.

The execution.

A bespoke Squarespace build structured around the full client journey — from first discovery to loyal regular.

Notes from the Chair was built as a natural extension of how Laura already talks to clients: honest, knowledgeable, unhurried. Not a marketing channel — a genuine home for her expertise.

Services copy sounds like Laura, not a beauty industry template. All images are real clients, real results — presented without over-styling.

What makes it work

It meets visitors where they are — new discovery or referred friend — and gives them exactly what they need to feel certain they're in the right hands.

And underneath the calm surface, the structure is already in place for everything Laura is planning next.
