Solenne Wellness Retreat
What happens when you design for feeling first.
The starting point
Not every project begins with a client brief. Sometimes the most revealing work happens when you remove the constraints entirely — and simply build something you believe in.
Solenne is that project. A self-initiated concept for a fictional luxury retreat on the Mediterranean coast. One question drove it: can a website make someone genuinely want to be somewhere they've never been?
The creative decision
Wellness is one of the most visually saturated categories online. Clean lines, white space, soft light. Beautiful, often. Distinctive, rarely.
I found a curated image set on Creative Market — considered rather than just attractive. That selection became the creative anchor for everything: copy rhythm, typography, pace. When images and words are chosen to work together from the start, the cohesion is almost impossible to retrofit later.
The challenge
Most wellness sites tell you what they offer. Solenne needed to make a visitor feel the retreat before they'd processed a single practical detail. The kind of atmospheric pull that makes someone close their laptop and think: I need that.
The discipline was restraint. Trusting that space, considered typography, and the right image in the right place would do more than anything busier could.
The thinking
Luxury hospitality isn't selling a place. It's selling permission — to prioritise yourself, step away, invest in your own restoration.
The visitor journey followed a simple human truth about how people make this kind of decision:
Discover → Understand → Trust → Plan → Enquire
Each section corresponds to one step. The visitor moves through it the way a guest moves through the retreat itself — gradually, without being rushed.
The execution
Large, unhurried typography. A palette drawn from the images — warm stone, soft sage, Mediterranean afternoon light. Copy written as invitation, not description.
Each signature experience was positioned as an event to anticipate, not just book. The testimonial wasn't placed as social proof — it was emotional confirmation, someone else putting words to the feeling the visitor is already starting to have.
What this demonstrates
Strategic and creative thinking matters as much as technical execution. Art direction — curating and combining visual and written elements with intention — is as much a part of the work as building the pages.
And a week of early mornings and evenings, given freely to a project with no client and no brief, can produce something worth showing.
